Chillin’ & Grillin’ - Color Throwdown #52

Grilling crop

~

Woo hoo!  It’s time for the 52nd edition of the Color Throwdown challenge!  I can’t believe we’ve been doing this for a year already!  Fun, fun, fun!

Here are this week’s colors as chosen by the fabulously talented Ms. Barbara:

This week our sponsor is Clear & Simple Stamps!  Talk about some cute stamps!  I really love that there are several sentiments and accessories with each stamp set.  The set I’m using today is BBQ Darling.   Absolutely perfect for a fun summer card!  Come to think of it….it’s not just for summer!  I have quite a few friends who grill out and make huge productions of it before each Carolina Panthers football game.  They’re tailgating maniacs!  This would work perfectly for them as well!

You may not believe this, but I had NO patterned paper with this week’s colors in it.  Gasp!  I know!!  So I ended up making my own using my Copic markers and a straight edge ruler.  And I actually had fun doing it!  I used the chisel edge end of the marker - the broad side for the lavender lines and the narrow tip for the green and brown lines.

Now, we’d love for you to play along with us!  There are prizes involved!!  Check out all the details at the Color Throwdown blog.  And for more inspiration, visit the design team’s blogs:

Today is Joy’s birthday!  You all know Joy from eclectic paperie  and Our Craft Lounge  fame!

Her friends, Cambria and Daisy, have rounded up a bunch of her friends to post “Kona” birthday cards today in honor of this special day!

Joy’s HB Kona

This new little sea turtle named Kona from Our Craft Lounge  is just adorable and I understand he’s one of Joy’s favorites.

Make Lemonade!

Make Lemonade crop

Today is another Wacky Wednesday over at the Rubbernecker blog!  Be sure to check out the great challenge that Candy has presented us with….using inchies in our design.

It’s also the monthly Dirty Dozen (past and present) design challenge at Splitcoaststampers.  This month Christine has asked us to use watercoloring in a design that is based on water.

I chose to use my water to make lemonade!  What better refreshment for those hot days of summer out by the pool or at the beach?  (Well, besides a cold Bud, of course!)

Make Lemonade

My inchie lemons and the long tall glass of cool lemonade are watercolored.  The lemons are punched with a 1″ square punch and matted on black cardstock.  After I colored the lemonade and cut it out, I used Ranger Glossy Accents on the ice cubes for a really “cool” effect.

I used my Top Note die to cut out the S.E.I. linen.  The sentiment is stamped on it using black StazOn ink.

We’d love for you to play along with us in the Wacky Wednesday challenge.  You could win a 40% gift certificate to use at Rubbernecker!  Check it out!  And while you’re there, link up to the blogs of the other design team members for some “cool” inspiration!

If you’d like to see all the other cards for the Dirty Dozen designers challenge you can go here:

Just Buzzin’ By….

Buzzin By crop

It’s Wednesday, so that means time for another Color Throwdown!  This week our hostess is LeAnne and she’s chosen some bright and happy summer colors.

CTD42

Don’t you love the way they look together?  I’m afraid at least half of the design team had a certain designer paper in mind when they started their projects for this week.  But not to worry.  Even though we used the same paper, the cards are dramatically different looking!  Be sure to check them out here: Color Throwdown Blog

I chose to use one of my Our Craft Lounge sets that just screams summer to me - Just Bugz.  I love it!

I also used my Grid background from Rubbernecker on the flower layers which were cut using the Flower Layers Sizzix die from Stampin’ Up!

After you check out the details of the challenge at the Color Throwdown blog, be sure to visit the blogs of all the design team members for some inspiration:

Then we’d love it if you’d play along with us.  You can use any colors close to the chosen ones, then post a DIRECT LINK to your card using Mister Linky on today’s CTD blog post.  Come play!!

Please come back in just a little while to check out my Wacky Wednesday post too!

An Ode to In (Colors, that is)

Ode to In crop

I decided to make a quick card tonight for the Color Challenge #CC178 on Splitcoaststampers. The challenge was to use neutrals and the outgoing Stampin’ Up! In Colors.

My neutrals are basic gray, sahara sand, and close to cocoa. The In colors I used are wild wasabi, blue bayou, soft sky, and river rock. I really hate to see these beautiful summer colors go away!

Ode to In

Look y’all! I FINALLY used my KITTIE KITS!!! I absolutely adore these kits and was dying to use the beach sets. For this card I used the Master #2 and Scene #6. I tell ya, that Kittie is a genius!!

That’s it for now! Be sure to come back tomorrow morning for the Color Throwdown challenge!
