Yesterday’s sketch challenge and today’s Ways to Use it challenge

The Presents crop

I saw that AmyR filled in for Roxie yesterday to post the sketch challenge on Splitcoast. She can make the simplest sketches look fabulous! So I decided to try this one for myself. Besides, I needed a birthday card for a coworker!

Remember that I made a birthday card for my son-in-law earlier with the little dog from the CC Designs stamp set, It’s My Birthday? Well, I decided to go with the same theme here. The coworker is a young man also.

The card is pretty straightforward. The zig-zag lines are not actually stitching, but one of the stamps from a Technique Tuesday stamp set. The tiniest present is paper pieced with a scrap of the striped paper, and the faux brads are taken with teal cardstock punched with my 1/4″ circle punch. I also shaded the sentiment a little with a W1 Copic marker.

The Presents

Thanks for coming by to visit today!

Oh and did you watch the American Idol elimination show last night? I definitely think the best 2 are in the finals - David and David. I vote for David, how about you?!! (Personally, I think David Cook has the most versatile style, but I love them both!)

AND…tonight’s another new episode of Grey’s Anatomy! Yum!

Have a wonderful day!

After I’d posted the above card for yesterday’s challenge, I found out that today’s Ways to Use it Challenge at SCS is to use inchies. I LOVE INCHIES!!! I first learned about them on Ellen Hutson’s blog and have been fascinated with capturing as much art as possible on a 1″ square! The real experts are Sharon, Debbie, Ellen, Michelle, Trudee and Cindy. Check ‘em out! Ellen even has an entire blog devoted to them: Inchie Inklings.

So this is the mini-card that I made for Ellen’s March Inchie challenge.

It’s All About the Presents

All About the Presents crop

Isn’t this a great sentiment for a birthday card??  Or for any occasion for that matter when you want to add a little humor.  I just love it, and I love the cute images in this stamp set from CC Designs.  I got them in my last order from All That Scraps.  And it’s all Michele’s fault!!!

I needed a birthday card for my son-in-law.  I know this may seem like a juvenile image - the little dog with gifts - but when you add in that sentiment and use the right colors, it totally works for a masculine card!

All About the Presents

I used Jen’s SFYTT sketch for this week.  It’s a great one and probably one I’ll come back to time and again.

The papers are all from the Basic Grey Blush collection.  I sewed the colored image layer to a piece of ruby red cardstock, and I also sewed a zig zag line down the middle of the brown strip just to add some texture and interest.

I wanted to dress up the envelope a little so I stamped the cupcake image from the same stamp set in the bottom left front corner and colored it with Copic markers.  Then I spritzed some close to cocoa, ruby red and tempting turquoise around the cupcake.

So, what do you think he’ll say when he reads this sentiment and then finds out there’s no present???

Ha, I’m just kidding!  But that’s what he’ll think, because I’ll wait until later to give him the gift!  And that’s ok because he and I do this to each other all the time!

I hope you have a lovely day!!
