Hard & Soft – Wacky Wednesday #18

Summer Umbrellas crop

It’s HOT outside!  I don’t know about where you are, but the temperatures here have been in the 90’s for a couple of weeks, with no relief in sight!  Thank goodness for pools, lakes, rivers, beaches, and beer!!

The hugely talented and effervescent Bev is hosting our Wacky Wednesday this week.  She’s come up with quite a title for this one: Hard & Soft.  Now get your mind out of the gutter…she’s referring to what you use on your card/project this week!!  She’s asked us to use metal and ribbon.  This is what I came up with:

Summer Umbrellas RN

I have to tell you that I am IN LOVE with the new In Color from Stampin’ UpSoft Suede.  It works with everything!  And just look how perfectly the gorgeous May Arts ribbon matches both Soft Suede and the new Bermuda Bay (another new favorite for sure)!

My metal is the tiny seashell charm and of course the ribbon is pretty obvious.  The umbrellas are from the Kittie Kit Scene #6 set.  I liked the way the umbrellas looked so much, I decided to use this image as my summer blog banner.

Please join the Rubbernecker Red Hot Mommas for this week’s Wacky Wednesday challenge.  You can check out all the details at the Rubbernecker blog then be inspired by checking out all the wonderful creations of the design team members:

    SMILE! - Color Throwdown #31

    CTD31Smile crop

    SERIOUSLY!!!!  How can you not smile when you see any of Kim Hughes‘ little critters??  I especially love these sea creatures - Ocean Friends.

    So when I saw what colors Tammy chose for the Color Throwdown challenge this week - colors of the ocean - I knew which stamp set I would use!

    CTD31

    I really had fun with this card.  I love the wave and decided to use it twice.  I also wanted a bubbly feel so I stamped and clear embossed the Large Polka Dot backgrounder on the kiwi kiss layer as well as on the ocean blue layer (even though you really can’t see it there).

    Smile

    The shark is stamped on textured bashful blue cardstock and he, the seahorse, the coral and both waves are popped up on dimensionals.  I stamped the “smile” on kiwi kiss cardstock, added the clear circle sticker, trimmed around it, and popped it up as well.  I used my white gel pen to highlight the shark’s teeth and the seahorse’s eyes.

    Speaking of seahorses, did you know that the female seahorse lays her eggs in the male’s pouch and he carries them until they hatch?  When I was very young, we lived in Florida and had a saltwater aquarium.  I remember being totally fascinated by these graceful creatures and was so excited to watch the babies come shooting out of the dad’s pouch as they hatched!

    We’d love for you to play along with us this week!  Remember, you could be the next Featured Stamper!  Here are the details - Color Throwdown Featured Stamper.

    Please check out the fantastic creations of the other design team members here:

    Thanks so much for stopping by today!

    An Ode to In (Colors, that is)

    Ode to In crop

    I decided to make a quick card tonight for the Color Challenge #CC178 on Splitcoaststampers. The challenge was to use neutrals and the outgoing Stampin’ Up! In Colors.

    My neutrals are basic gray, sahara sand, and close to cocoa. The In colors I used are wild wasabi, blue bayou, soft sky, and river rock. I really hate to see these beautiful summer colors go away!

    Ode to In

    Look y’all! I FINALLY used my KITTIE KITS!!! I absolutely adore these kits and was dying to use the beach sets. For this card I used the Master #2 and Scene #6. I tell ya, that Kittie is a genius!!

    That’s it for now! Be sure to come back tomorrow morning for the Color Throwdown challenge!

    A new week!

    Published by bronih under Beach, Family, Just talking

    Hi everyone! I’m back from the beach! It was a wonderful relaxing time, but not without some craziness mixed in! I went with my daughter and 2 grandsons, so you know we didn’t just sit on the beach soaking up the rays and relaxing the whole time! We built drip sand castles, rode the waves on boogie boards, and watched the lifeguard pull in several people who weren’t paying attention and got carried out too far by the riptides. The riptides were unusually strong because of the low pressure system off the coast which has now become a tropical storm.

    We also played MagiQuest! Have you heard of it? You purchase a “magic” wand and are given several different quests to complete within a certain time span. Your wand unlocks secrets and allows you to gather treasures to aid you along the way. There were people of all ages playing. It was really cool! There were castles, gargoyles, fairies, unicorns, musical trees and even wizards! Here’s Hunter with his wand, waiting to enter the chamber to play.

    And here are some more random images of the week. Check out Hunter’s back flip on the bungee cord jump and my “Shark’s Bite” beverage!

    Well, it’s Tuesday again and I’m not actually at home right now. I’m on vacation this week and have scheduled this post to release on Tuesday morning. So I hope it’s really Tuesday today and I haven’t messed things up!!

    I’ll be brief with my card descriptions today. Here we go:

    RUBBERNECKER - RBC18

    ~~~
    Little One crop
    Today is Treasure Hunt Tuesday at Rubbernecker Stamp Co. You can find the first clue on the HOME PAGE and when you find the treasure and make a purchase, the treasure is yours!
    BLOG CANDY TODAY IS BEING OFFERED BY SHELLY AND CANDY!
    As you may know, today is also Rubbernecker Bloggers Challenge day! Today, Jeanne has issued the challenge to make an ANIMAL CARD. You know, I didn’t realize that I have VERY FEW Rubbernecker animal images. I guess I’m just going to have to get some more! In the meantime, I’m using my baby bear image for my card today.
    Little One
    The base is wild wasabi and the corners are rounded and a border was pierced. The scalloped piece of Two Scoops paper was cut and embossed using Nestabilities and my Cuttlebug, as was the scalloped mat around my little bear. Baby Bear was colored with Copic markers and I sponged a little groovy guava around the edges. I stamped only a portion of the sentiment onto a vellum heart tag and tied it to the wasabi ribbon.
    JACKSONBELLE EMBELLISHMENTS - JBE011
    ~~~

    Live Your Bliss crop

    Today’s Jacksonbelle challenge for the design team was to case another DT member. We were assigned “partners”. Well, oh my! My partner is Elizebeth Neumann! Can you imagine how hard it was to choose just one of her cards to case?? Just look at these wonderful cards - ebethneu. After numerous views throughout her entire gallery, I kept coming back to this card:

    Pamper Yourselff-ebethneu

    So this is the one I decided to case. I kept the general color theme, the layout, the scalloped bottom edge and ribbon placement. I also popped up the main focus image on mounting tape. The difference lies in the stamp sets used and the fact that I watercolored my image and Elizebeth paper-pieced hers. So here’s mine:

    Live Your Bliss

    I just fell in love with this Inkadinkado stamp the first time I saw it. I’m a beach lover, you know! And I really love how my card turned out. I wouldn’t have been able to come up with it without Elizebeth’s great inspiration! Thanks, Beth!!! We definitely need to try this challenge again!!

    Check out the other designers’ cases of each other:

    Why don’t you try it? Case a card from one of the designer’s galleries and upload it to SCS with the keyword code JBE011. I can’t wait to see what you do!

    Beachy Colors - CC171

    Beachy Colors crop

    I couldn’t wait to get home from work today to make a beachy card with today’s color challenge colors! I love this combination! Here’s a link to the challenge: CC171

    I don’t have time for much of an explanation, but I really don’t think it’s needed. It’s a simple card. The image squares are inchies. The black squares are punched with a 1-1/4″ square punch. The soft sky textured layer and the sentiment layer were attached with mounting tape.

    All images and ink are from Rubbernecker Stamp Co.

    Thanks for stopping by to look!!

    Miss You Sailboat crop

    I shouldn’t have to say this anymore; you should know the drill by heart by now!

    It’s Treasure Hunt Tuesday at Rubbernecker Stamp Co. Here’s your chance to win a free image and all you have to do is follow the clues beginning with the first one on the Rubbernecker Home Page. When you find the treasure and make a purchase, you get the image for free!

    Today you have a chance to win blog candy from Sherry and Leigh!

    As you may know, we’ve moved the Rubbernecker Blogger Challenge to Tuesdays. So along with a chance to win the Treasure today, you also have a chance to play along with the challenge. You’ll need to link your card to Jeanne’s post for today and if you use a Rubbernecker, Stamp Oasis, or KK Original image on your challenge card, you’ll be entered into our monthly drawing for even more free rubber!! For all the rules and details, please see this post on Jeanne’s blog.

    Today’s challenge is to use PAINT. Now how hard can that be? You could use acrylic pain, crackle paint, puffy paint, or even watercolor paint. I chose to use acrylic paint and puffy paint on my card today.

    Miss You Sailboat

    I used one of the new images from Jeanne’s collection at Rubbernecker. It’s called Swirl Flourish and it’s gorgeous! I stamped the image on textured soft sky cardstock using 3 different colors of ink (aqua, stream and white) and clear embossed each time. Then I stamped it again using aqua with no embossing. I painted below the swirls with acrylic paint. Then I stamped the sailboat in stream ink on shimmery white and highlighted it with Copic markers. I cut this out using a small long rectangle Nestabilties die and my Cuttlebug. The corners of the “ocean” layer and the white mat and teal card base are all rounded. I mounted the sailboat on the waves with foam tape. The sentiment is stamped in stream ink onto the acrylic paint. I added white puffy paint to the clouds and some of the waves and let it dry overnight. Then I heated it until it puffed just a little and added the peart accents.

    Be sure to check out these DT members’ blogs for their samples of a painted card:

    Bye Blackbird crop

    Today’s challenge for the Jacksonbelle Embellishments design team is a sketch challenge. And if I could figure out how to get a decent size picture of the sketch in this post it would be posted right here! I’ll edit in a link later! You’re invited to play along too!

    ETA: Here’s the link to the challenge and here’s the sketch:

    JBE006 sketch

    My card today uses Birds Galore by Inkadinkado again! I just LOVE this stamp set!!!

    I also wanted to try my new 7 Gypsies ATC transparencies out but not on an ATC! I used one as the layer behind the oval. They come preprinted and there are 2 each of 10 different designs! So cool!

    Bye Blackbird

    The birds in flight were stamped on the black card base with Versamark and clear embossed. I inked the edges of the pomegranate pieces of cardstock and of the Fleuriste (Cosmo Cricket) DP too. The bird was stamped directly onto the DP twice. I cut the second one out, clear embossed it, and layered it on top of the other one. I added dots of Black Diamond Stickles on the 2 pomegranate pieces.

    Please play along with us! And check out the other examples here:

    Stamps: Birds Galore - Inkadinkado

    Best Friends at the Beach

    Good morning!

    I’m currently at the beach with my daughter and her almost 2 year old with no access to the internet and barely any cell phone signal; basically just out-of-touch!

    While I’m away I thought I’d share this beachy card that I made several months ago. It was made using a previous sketch from Jen del Muro’s SFYTT series (seen here). I love the multi-overlapping panels she used. Thanks for the inspiration, Jen!

    Best Friends at the Beach

    The image for this card is from My Favorite Things, called By the Seashore, and was stamped on kraft paper and colored with Copic markers. I used my white gel pen to color in the girl’s shirt. I stamped the white panel with one of the Itty Bitty Background stamps from SU – hoping that it would look a little like sand. Then I stamped the seagull on the pylons on white paper twice, colored it in and cut the entire image from one piece and just the seagull from the other.

    I mounted all three of the panels on black cardstock, and then attached them all to the card, using mounting tape to raise the image panel up above the other layers. I attached the pylons and seagull image to the blue patterned paper using glue dots, with the second seagull image on top of that.

    I made the sentiment label with my new little toy, a Dymo label buddy, and attached it to the bottom left of the card front. Lastly, I dotted across the bottom of the card with a black glaze pen.

    Thanks for visiting! Please come back soon and enjoy your weekend!

    Checkerboard Lighthouse

    Wow that’s bright! But I’m so glad it’s Friday!!! And can you believe it’s almost June already? It’s unreal how fast this year is flying by!

    Here’s another beachy summer card for you. I used a CPS sketch because I found it a little challenging to decide how to use the large Rubbernecker lighthouse image. Not to worry though, this CPS53 sketch was just the right answer!

    large-lighthouse-blog.jpgThe aqua glass part of the lighthouse is covered with Ranger Glossy Accents.

    I know it’s hard to see but I outlined just inside the border of the red circle with a red spica glitter pen and boy does it sparkle! I also traced back over the Ahoy sentiment with a black gelly roll glaze pen after I stamped it in Versafine Onyx black ink just to help it show up better and add more sparkle as well.

    I love how my checkerboard border from the Rubbernecker Sweets section coordinates so well with the checkerboard lighthouse!

    Thanks for visiting me today! I hope you have a wonderful weekend!
