Food for Thought - Rubbernecker Blog Challenge 11

Cornucopia crop

Today, challenge seekers, your challenge (should you choose to accept it) is to create a card or project about or using food items. Come on, you know you’re hungry and just waiting for that big Thanksgiving feast! So use those thoughts and that hunger to inspire you to create.

My card uses the Cornucopia stamp from the Rubbernecker Fall section. I colored it with my Copic markers, and no the orange is not really that florescent looking in real life!

Autumn Greetings to You - Color Throwdown 21

Autumn Mum crop

It’s my week again to host the Color Throwdown color challenge. Since we’re so close to Thanksgiving I chose some of my favorite autumn colors. Here they are:

CTD21

These just happen to be some of the colors in the Stampin’ Up! designer paper Outlaw too. So after I’d colored my chrysanthemum, I pulled out the papers and chose which ones to use with it. I think it turned out rather nicely!

Please feel free to play along in the challenge with us. Just use the keyword CTD21 when you upload your card to your favorite online gallery, so we can check them out!

    JACKSONBELLE EMBELLISHMENTS - JBE030

    ~~~
    Dec album cover crop
    I fell in love with the Memory Box Gingercake papers the instant I saw them and placed an order right away with Lindsey at Jacksonbelle Embellishments. I knew right away what I would use them for…. a December daily album for my daughter’s family a la Ali Edwards.
    Our design team challenge this week was to use a Jacksonbelle Embellishments product that you love, so I’ve been working feverishly all this past weekend to get this project completed so I could show you today. (And wouldn’t you know it, Gingercake is currently out of stock at JBE!)
    Dec album cover
    This is the front cover. It uses the Gingercake papers, of course. I also used Tim Holtz grungeboard - mixed minis for the letters and numbers on the front. They’re painted with Ranger Distress Crackle paint in Shabby Shutters. That is also a Tim Holtz fragment charm behind the star clip. The felt trees are from American Crafts Holiday House and I’m not sure where the vine felt border sticker is from.
    I won’t bore you with all the details on the inside pages. There are too many products and companies represented to mention them all, but I would be glad to answer any questions you may have about product. Just leave a comment or email me.
    Inside cover
    Dec album p2-3
    Dec album p 4-5
    Dec album p 6-7
    Dec album p 8-9
    Dec album p 10-11
    Dec album p 12-13
    Dec album p 14-15
    Dec album p 16-17
    Dec album p 18-19
    Dec album p 20-21
    Dec album p 22-23
    Dec album p 24-25
    Dec album p 26 back cover
    I have to explain the last page - the one for December 26. I added that page because one of the Christmas gifts I’m giving their family is a package of tickets to see the WWE in Charlotte on the 26th. The boys are HUGE wrestling fans - even dressed up as wrestlers for Halloween. I know they’re going to have a blast and I wanted to give them an extra place to put photos from that day as well.
    Here are some extra pages that are now inserted in the book to be used for extra photos and journaling. I’m quite pleased with how it turned out and I hope they will be too!
    Dec album extra pages
    Thanks so much for visiting today and spending all that time looking!
    See you tomorrow for the Color Throwdown challenge and the Rubbernecker Blog challenge. I’m hosting both of them!
    *******************************
    I’m trying to use all of my fall stamps before this week is over and this is one of my favorites - Harvest Maiden from the Stamp Oasis Goddess section at Rubbernecker Stamp Co. Isn’t she beautiful?
    I stamped her in Adirondack Espresso on marl paper and used a LOT of different Copic markers to color her. As I was looking through my stash of papers, I ran across this particular print from the Prima Urban Cosmo collection. It had the perfect colors in it and looked great with the purely pomegranate paper too. It wraps around the card, covering the back of the card as well.
    Cuppa Riley
    Cuppa Riley crop
    I had to go in search of my Riley stamps in order to make this card.
    All of my SU sets are in the clamshell boxes in a glassfront bookcase.  Most of my unmounted sets are on my Clip-It-Up, but all of my wood mounted stamps are in plastic containers stacked up behind my desk.  That means unless they come to mind when I’m getting ready to make a card, they remain pretty much forgotten.
    I had heard the sad news of Kristi Ferro’s (of Hanna Stamps) father’s death this week, which reminded me how much I love the Riley stamps and how I had just neglected the poor little guys.
    So I pulled them out and since this guy (Coffee Riley) is my absolute favorite, I decided to make a card with him. (I have been eyeing the cute little Sleepytime Riley lately though…love those bunny slippers!)
    Cuppa Riley
    I used the CPS90 sketch, stamped the card base with CHF’s Polka Dot backgrounder, then ran it through the Cuttlebug using the D’vine Swirls folder.  The rest of the papers except for the white image layer are from the Basic Grey 6×6 pad Two Scoops.
    The image was stamped with Memento Tuxedo Black ink (wonderful for using with Copics!) then colored using Copic markers and cut with a Labels 2 Nestabilities die.  Leaving the die on, I lightly airbrushed the background with my Y21 Copic marker.
    Thanks for visiting today.  If you’re a praying person, please keep Kristi and her family in mind.
    The swirl was cut using a Sizzix Sizzlits die (Scribbles Swirls) from a piece of the Basic Grey paper, then topped with a flower and a button tied with linen thread.
    Thanks for visiting today.  If you’re a praying person, please keep Kristi and her family in mind.
    Don’t you just love sparkle?
    Snowy Log Cabin crop
    Well, I do, too!
    Today’s Rubbernecker Blog challenge is presented by the fabulous Shelly Kuck, and she’s asked us to use sparkle on our cards! My sparkle is the snow on and around my log cabin.
    Here’s the full view:
    Snowy Log Cabin
    My, it does sparkle IRL!
    I started with Beate’s sketch WSC54 and the log cabin from Kittie’s The Moose Is Loose Kittie Kit. It’s really easy to create a scene with the stamps Kittie has chosen. All you have to do is stamp and color. All I added were the trees, and they’re from the same kit.
    I colored the cabin, the sky and the snow with Copic markers. I masked the slopes with Eclipse tape to stamp the 2 background trees, then stamped the tree in the foreground after I removed the tape. I cut the circles with Nestabilities, and then mounted the entire scene on a piece of corrugated cardboard torn from a shipping box. (And lord knows, I have enough of those!!) The chimney smoke was done with liquid applique.
    You can find all the details to the challenge (RBC10) HERE, and be sure to check out what the other designers have come up with. You’re sure to see bunches and bunches of sparkle!!!
    Thanks for stopping by to see the sparkle!!
    Paper: marl paper, chocolate chip, soft sky DP, unknown yellow DP, corrugated cardboard
    Get comfy in strange colors…
    Get Comfy Slippers crop
    I don’t think Tammy will be upset with me for saying that! She chose the colors for this week’s Color Throwdown challenge. She had great inspiration…the color of her local Panera restaurant. I love the decor at mine as well, but it was a strange combination to work with to come up with a card!
    CTD20
    The color banner even looks cool! But I really did struggle with this one! I finally figured out that less image and more background would work best, so I chose the small pair of slippers from Lockhart Stamp Company and a coordinating sentiment.
    The card is 5 inches square and I used my favorite of the colors, Ruby Red, to be the dominant one, using it as the main background to the image layers. I had great luck finding a flower and button that would match, but found that I had no ribbon (and I have a lot!) that would complement the card or colors. Soooo, of course I pulled out my Copic markers and white taffeta ribbon and created one! I think it works really well! What do you think?
    Get Comfy Slippers
    Please visit the Color Throwdown blog to see all the designers’ cards and to link to their blogs for all the details. I can’t wait to see what they’ve done with this strange combination! (Sorry, Tammy!!)
    Have a great day, y’all! And come back to see me soon!
    When I first saw this beautiful Poinsettia in theRubbernecker Winter Holidays #2 collection, I KNEW I would watercolor it. However, I then decided to watercolor it 3 times and create a cluster! It was stamped 3 times on the first piece of watercolor paper and watercolored. I trimmed it into a smaller rectangle, leaving some of the leaves to overhang the edges. Then I stamped just one flower again on watercolor paper and painted it. I cut it out and raised it up on foam mounting tape after the rest of the card was assembled. The flower centers were painted with Beeswax Shimmerz Paint.
    JACKSONBELLE EMBELLISHMENTS - JBE029
    ~~~

    Snowy Jo in Lime

    Put your sunglasses on for this one!!! LOL!!! I was trying to pick up the colors in this beautiful Fancy Pants - Happy Holidays paper and ended up using the lime green tones to airbrush the background of my Snowy Jo image. Actually I like these colors together, but it definitely is not your usual winter/holiday color combo.

    Snowy Jo in Lime

    The image and mat panels were cut with a Labels Two Nestabilities die. I pierced the design at the bottom using an Ornare template. Don’t ya love the felt snowflakes? That’s a self-adhesive felt lace panel by Queen & Co.

    You’re more than welcome to play along with us. Create a Christmas/snowflake/winter card and upload it to your favorite online gallery using JBE029 as the keyword.

    Rubbernecker Blog challenge 9 - an inspiration

    Simple Joys crop

    It’s my honor to hostess the Rubbernecker Blog challenge this week. I thought it would be fun to do use an inspiration piece, and I chose a beautiful piece of art that I found while browsing Art.com. It’s an amazing abstract by Dee Ott called Summer Fern II, and can be seen (and purchased) HERE. Be sure to check out the Rubbernecker Blog for all the details of the challenge.

    Dee Ott Summer Fern II

    My card came together strictly by experimentation. I knew the look I wanted, but I wasn’t sure I could achieve it. My first step was to emboss the larger pine tree from my Kittie Kit Scene #2 - The Moose is Loose stamp set in clear EP on white cardstock. Then I sponged on some Adirondack Willow ink. I stamped the tree again in Lettuce ink and clear embossed it. A smaller, and less full, tree was cleare embossed to the left and behind the first white tree, then stamped again in Lettuce twice without reinking and clear embossed again.

    Simple Joys

    Maybe you can tell that I really liked the progression of color in the Summer Fern II art piece and tried to replicate that in my card. After the trees were stamped and embossed, I started sponging. I used Lettuce behind and around the trees, Juniper on the lower right, and Cloudy Blue for the sky. The water is Stonewashed. The rest of the sky was sponged in Cool Peri, Shell Pink, Peach Bellini and Lemonade.

    THEN, I spilled some clear embossing powder onto the card!!!!! I almost panicked, because the inks were still wet from sponging and the powder wouldn’t just fall off. So instead, I just reheated the entire card and it resulted in a very cool textured surface as opposed to what would have been a flat surface. Here’s a close up (you can click on it to see it larger):

    Simple Joys close up

    I hope you’ll visit the Rubbernecker Blog for links to the Design Team’s inspired artwork too!
