A Dear Friend’s birthday

Flower Filled crop

My dear friend Beth recently celebrated a birthday. When I think of her, I think of rich florals, bold colors, lovely old lace, and the wonders of nature.

She lives in a 100 year old refurbished farmhouse (with 140 acres) and besides working a full time job and being a single mom, she maintains the 4 acres of beautiful landscaping around her home and collects antiques of all kinds. You should see the gorgeous treasures in her home and stored in her garage! It’s always an adventure to see her latest acquisitions!

So when it was time to make her birthday card, the beautiful Basic Grey Stella Rose paper is what came to mind first. That and flowers, birds and lace! So finally this is the card I came up with for Beth~

Flower Filled

I just love it and almost hated to give it up! If it had been for anyone else….! She loved it too and said she was going to frame it!

The base is textured wasabi and the floral and striped DPs are both Stella Ruby. I used my Cuttlebug Just My Type border folder to dry emboss the striped DP, then sanded the embossing a little to remove some of the color. The so saffron layer is stamped with Pretty Pattern backgrounder from Cornish Heritage Farms. Both the saffron and pomegranate layers are distressed.

I sewed around the DP, added May Arts gold metallic ribbon tied into a knot through the Prima flower, lace and a Prima acrylic bird painted on the back side with Butter Cream Shimmerz. The sentiment is from the Lizzie Anne Au Naturale stamp set.

Well, I hope you liked Beth’s birthday card! And I hope you all have a wonderful Labor Day holiday!! Me? I’m working Monday. Phooey!!

Oh, I almost forgot to mention….did you see that Jacksonbelle Embellishments is having a 15% off everything sale from August 30th (Saturday) through September 1st (Monday)!! Just think of all the great Inkadinkado stamps, May Arts ribbon, Cuttlebug folders and Shimmerz paint you could save on!! Just use the code LABOR08 to get the discount!

Thanks for coming by today! Please come back soon!

Color Throwdown Challenge #8

CTD8 Hello Friend

Well, if it’s Wednesday it must be time for another Color Throwdown challenge! I’ve been having the best time with these color challenges. And this week Tammy has chosen the prettiest color combination. I just love it!

CTD8

How pretty are these colors together?? Gorgeous! I can’t wait to see what the other girls have done! And you should play along with us too. Just post your card using these colors (or close relatives) to your blog or SCS and then link it directly to today’s Color Throwdown blog post.

So here’s my card~

CTD8 Hello Friend SCS

I absolutely fell in love with the whimsical papers in the new Basic Grey Offbeat 6×6 paper pad. I love the colors and the funky images and graphics! Would ya look at those cute beets and how about the dragonflies on this paper! Cute, I tell ya!

I started with a base of Prism’s Prismatic Intense Kiwi, then layered ruby red and the Offbeat paper on that. The image from Inkadinkado’s Garden Delight clear stamp set was colored with Stampin’ Up markers and stamped onto the white cardstock.

The dragonfly from the same set was colored the same way with certainly celery and old olive markers. After I cut it out with a circle Nestabilities die, I stamped the sentiment using PTI’s Mixed Messages set, then matted it on a circle of celery cardstock and pierced around the edges of it.

I rounded all the corners on the right side of the card and the dragonfly circle is attached with foam mounting tape. This layout is based on the Verve sketch MTVD07.

Here are links to the other ladies’ blogs so you can see the details of their creations:

So ends another Color Throwdown challenge card post! Please come back again soon!

~~~~~~~~~~~~
Stamps: Garden Delight - Inkadinkado, Mixed Messages - PTI
Paper: white, ruby red, certainly celery, Prismatics Intense Kiwi, Basic Grey Offbeat 6×6 pad
    ************
    Now for my card. It’s appropriate to have a card featuring candy when I’m offering blog candy, right?
    Trick or Treaters
    Aren’t these little guys the cutest? I’d give them lots of candy if they came to my door!
    This is a Rubbernecker image called Trick or Treats, and I colored it with Copic markers then cut it out with Nestabilities. The striped piece of paper was torn around the edges and sponged with Ranger Distress ink in Peeled Paint and my ink blending tool. Have you tried that yet? It’s fantastic for blending ink!! (Duh, Broni, thus the name!) I just had to curl up the bottom corner to let the freaky ghost peek out!
    The image was offset on an eggplant scalloped rectangle and I place a piece of PTI Plum Pudding satin ribbon in between them. The sentiment was stamped in pumpkin pie ink on white cardstock. I used Ranger Glossy Accents in a thick layer on it and placed the grungeboard O, which was colored with a YG95 Copic marker, on top of it. I coated the O with the Glossy Accents too and left it to dry. Then I trimmed around the O, and glued it to the card.
    ~~~~~~~~~~~~

    Stamps: Trick or Treats, Petite Halloween sentiment set - Rubbernecker’s Halloween section

    Paper: white, elegant eggplant, Halloween patterned paper

    Ink: Memento - Rich Cocoa, pumpkin pie, sahara sand, Ranger Distress - Peeled Paint

    Accessories: Nestabilities, Copic markers, Idea-ology mixed minis plain grungeboard, ink blending tool, PTI Plum Pudding satin ribbon, glue dots, mounting tape

    ~~~
    Casing Erin crop
    Hey, guess what! Lindsey will be having a sale in her store (Jacksonbelle Embellishments) beginning Friday, August 29th through Monday, September 1st, and she’s offering 15% off everything!!! Woo hoo! She’s got all the latest Inkadinkado stamps and just about every available color of the new fun Shimmerz paints.
    Our challenge from Jacksonbelle Embellishments this week is to case one of our very own designers! Let’s have a big round of applause for the featured designer this week - Erin McKinney of Stampin’ in the Sun!
    I chose this card of Erin’s to case:
    Holly Birdie - erin mckinney
    Isn’t it adorable? I kept the same layout and birdie theme, used my ribbon in the same place and used Dew Drops where she’s placed her gem brads. I did change the stamps I used and the papers and colors too.
    Here’s my CASE:
    Casing Erin
    I colored my bird image from the Birds Galore clear stamp set by Inkadinkado with Stampin’ Up markers and stamped it onto shimmery vanilla cardstock. I cut the rectangle panel using a Nestabilities die and left the die on while I sponged some celery ink aroung the edges.
    The patterned papers are Daisy D’s Chloe Marie line. Yummy paper! Would you look at that beautiful 1″ satin ribbon?! It’s by May Arts of course! I added Dew Drops (water) at the bottom.
    Check out the beautiful creations of all these talented designers:
    If you’d like to play along, post your card on SCS with the keyword JBE017.
    Thanks for visiting with me today and making it all the way through another long 2 For You Tuesday post! Check back tomorrow for my Color Throwdown #8 challenge card. We have a gorgeous color combo for you to try this week!
    Double - Triple challenge cards
    Winter Cardinal crop
    Happy weekend everyone! Well, it’s almost over, so I hope you’ve had a happy one. This is the first weekend in a long time that I’ve been able to stay home and in my craft room. That’s certainly made it a happy time for me!
    I fell in love with the color combination for the color challenge at SCS this week (CC180) and also with the sketch challenge (SC190). So I decided to combine the 2 challenges. Along the way, other ideas kept popping into my head, so I ended up making 3 cards using both challenges! They all use the same papers too!
    This first card was made with my new Ornamental Cardinal stamp by Inkadinkado. I colored the stamp with my SU markers, spritzed it with water, then stamped it onto blush blossom cardstock. (For some reason, the blush doesn’t show up very well in the photos.)
    Winter Cardinal
    The ruby red card front was run through the Cuttlebug using the Leafy Branch folder. Both the cardinal and the leaves were painted with Royal Red Shimmerz paint.
    I added some We R Memory Keepers hardware, ribbon, linen thread and rhinestones to finish the card.
    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

    For this next card, I also used the Limited Supplies challenge (LSC182) to use old stamps/papers/embellishments. I haven’t used SU’s Petal Prints or French Script in forever! I’ve also had the papers (Basic Grey Blush and DCWV Metallic) for at least a year.

    Petal Shimmerz

    The stamps were colored with SU markers again and spritzed with water before stamping onto the blush cardstock.

    Butter Cream Shimmerz was painted on the flowers and again I used some We R Memory Keepers hardware. Same paper, same layout, same colors. The B sticker is also from the Basic Grey Blush collection.

    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    This third card was a lot of fun. I added taken with teal to the color combination and this time I added a sentiment.
    My Sock Monkey
    Stitching, too! I sewed around the outside of the card and along the diagonal paper seam. The monkey’s head is a third layer (I colored a second stamped image and glued it to the original one that had been stamped on the blush circle.) His arm is part of the second layer. I cut along both sides of it and placed some small pieces of foam tape under it to raise it a little. The cupcake is up on foam tape as well, and the frosting is coated with Ranger Glossy Accents.
    Well, thanks for stopping by today and taking the time to read through this long post. I’ll be back on Tuesday with the 2 for You Tuesday double header. Be sure to check back then!
    Color Throwdown Challenge #7
    Just Leaves crop
    It’s Wednesday! Yay! Only a couple more work days left! It’s also time for another Color Throwdown challenge!
    LeAnne chose 3 very soft and beautiful colors this week:
    CTD7
    Now I’ve never been a big fan of apricot appeal, but I have to say that with the bashful blue and the ballet blue, it shines!
    I wanted to try something a little different this week. I stamped my Just Leaves image in Ranger Clear Resist and Apricot Appeal (with the edges rolled in Cameo Coral), and clear embossed it. Then I stamped the White Flowers image in Ballet Blue after stamping off once on scrap paper.
    Just Leaves
    Using my ink blending tool, I sponged behind the flowers with Ballet Blue and a good bit of the background in Bashful Blue. I then sponged all around the edges with Apricot Appeal.
    I stamped the French Letter image in Apricot Appeal a couple of times at odd angles.
    I layered the image panel on a strip of Apricol Appeal punched with a Martha Stewart scallop punch, then onto a strip of Ballet Blue. I pierced a line down the right edge of the Bashful Blue card base and tied a blue gingham ribbon on the left side.
    So that’s it…my Color Throwdown card for this week. What do you think?
    Check out what the other designers did this week too:
    There are some beautiful cards using these colors!
    And now I want to see what you can do! Upload a card to your blog or gallery using the keyword CTD7, and link it to the CTD7 post at the Color Throwdown blog. And have fun!!!
    Thanks for visiting again today. I hope to get in a lot of stamping time this weekend, since it’s the first one I’ll get to spend at home in quite a while. Hopefully I’ll have a lot more cards to share with you soon!
    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

    2 for You Tuesday #11

    2 for you new

    AHOY MATEYS!!! It’s Tuesday again! I’ve got 2 cards for you today (surprise, surprise!) and a little bit of business, so let’s get started.

    RUBBERNECKER - TREASURE HUNT TUESDAY

    ~~~
    Poor Old Ralph crop
    Guess what! It’s time for another Treasure Hunt at Rubbernecker.
    If you can find the treasure (and it’s very easy!) and make a purchase, you get the treasure FREE! The treasure must be claimed between 4 am PST and 9 pm PST (that’s 7 am - 12 midnight on the East coast). All the details can be found at the Rubbernecker Home Page.
    And while you’re there, you’ll definitely want to check out the specials of the week! All Colorbox Fluid Chalk full size ink pads are on sale for the next 2 weeks and this is the last week for the sale on the new Adirondack Pigment ink pads. This is a really great deal, you guys!
    Shelly and Juliana have BLOG CANDY to be won today, so be sure to leave them a comment to qualify. And here are links to the other fabulous designers, so you can skip over to see what they’ve created for you today:
  • Bev Gerard (Tex)
  • Candy Williams
  • Kittie Caracciolo
  • Linda Duke
  • Sherry Cheever
  • Tami Mayberry
  • Now here’s my card for this week. It’s a bit different from most Halloween cards!
    Poor Old Ralph
    Dear old Ralph isn’t really dressed for trick or treating but as long as he’s out there and he has a bag, might as well at least try for some candy!
    My chocolate chip background was painted with Ranger Distress Crackle Paint in Scattered Straw. I’m a little impatient so I used my heat gun to help dry it. I added my ribbon and used half glue dots to make the ends curve up a little. The main image was colored with Copic markers and the corners were stitched to the card.
    I used Rubbernecker’s featured product this week - Colorbox Fluid Chalk ink - for my sentiment. I love the clean, matte impression I get with the chalk ink.
    If you see poor old Ralph out by the street around Halloween, why don’t you slow the car down and toss him some candy!
    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

    Stamps: Ralph Raking (78-17) - Rubbernecker Old Characters section, Candy Corn Text (45-11) - Rubbernecker Halloween section

    JACKSONBELLE EMBELLISHMENTS - JBE016

    ~~~
    Ruff Day crop
    This week’s Jacksonbelle Embellishments challenge for the designers was to use some of the Jack’s World designer paper from Cosmo Cricket that Lindsey has in the store. This paper is just perfect for kids, especially little boys. I’m sure I’ll be using a lot of this to make cards for my grandsons.
    I had not had a chance to use my Inkadinkado Dogs clear stamp set either, so out it came! What a cute sentiment to use with the sunshiny paper!
    Ruff Day
    Surely this would brighten someone’s day, don’t you think? The little swirly dog is so cute and how about those gorgeous Prima flowers! Can you see the Shimmerz highlights on the dog? IRL, it’s so sparkly! With an addition of brass brads and a piece of white ribbon, this was really a quick and simple card to make. Good thing, too, because I only had a couple of hours tonight to make both of these cards and write this post!
    You should really check out the cards the other designers will be posting. These ladies sure can make some beautiful cards!
    And did you notice? We have a new designer! Please help us welcome the very talented Rachel Baird! I’ll thrilled to have her join our little group!
    You know you can play along with us too! Just use the keyword JBE016 when you upload your card!
    Thanks so much for visiting my blog today! I hope you’ve enjoyed seeing the cards! See you tomorrow when I’ll be posting this week’s Color Throwdown challenge card…
    Just a quickie!
    Cookies of Life crop
    Now get your mind out of the gutter! That’s not what I meant!!!
    I meant that this will be just a quick little blog post to share this card I made for a girlfriend’s birthday. Isn’t this little cookie guy (’cause I don’t really know what he is) just the cutest?? I love his wonky eyes and stubby little arms!
    And how come I could always get birthday cards out to my entire family and all of my friends on time when I wasn’t making them? Shouldn’t I have a stash somewhere? Then where is it??
    Cookies of Life
    The ghost flower was painted with a Copic marker (so I guess this would qualify for the Ways to Use It challenge at SCS!) and the chocolate chips and his eyes were made with brown Tulip Slick paint.
    I hope you all have a wonderful weekend!!
    Color Throwdown challenge #6
    Boo to You crop
    Yay! It’s time for another color throwdown challenge! It’s already #6! And this week, Tracy decided to mix things up a bit and throw down 5 colors for us to work with! How fun is that?!! Here they are:
    CTD6
    What a great combination, huh!? I love the mix of warms and cools!
    So guess what kind of card I made?? A Halloween card! Surprise, surprise! I’m having so much fun!
    I used the Halloween Block from Rubbernecker Stamp Co., but instead of using it as one image, I cut it into 4 separate images.
    Boo to You
    Each of the little focal images were stamped on shimmery white cardstock, colored, and cut out to be mounted on foam tape on top of each square. These were attached to a pumpkin piece of cardstock which was stamped with the Grand Spider Web stamp.
    There are also a soft sky textured layer, a distressed Making Memories Halloween DP layer, a celery layer, and a piece of celery ribbon all on the pumpkin square card base. The card is topped with 2 buttons tied together with a very narrow ribbon and attached to the center with a couple of glue dots.
    Well, I did it! I got all 5 colors in, but it was tougher than I thought it would be.
    You should try it! Complete a card using these colors, upload it to your blog or gallery (with the keyword CTD6) and leave a comment with a direct link to your card in THIS POST. I’m really anxious to see what you create and if you thought it was tougher or easier to have 5 colors instead of the usual 3.
    Check out the other designers’ cards here: Color Throwdown Blog and on their blogs here:
    Thanks for visiting today! Please come back soon!
    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

    Stamps: Halloween Block, Grand Spider Web - Rubbernecker Halloween section

    Paper: white, shimmery white, pumpkin pie, certainly celery, soft sky textured, Making Memories Halloween 6×6 pad

    Ink: Ranger Archival - jet black, Ranger Distress - black soot

    Accessories: Copic markers (R05, R27, YR65, YR16, Y11, Y21, Y15, Y26, YG11, YG03, BG10, BG11, W1), Prismacolor pencils, buttons, ribbon, mounting tape
