Color Throwdown - Week #4

With Love 2 U crop

So I gave the blog a new look. What do you think? I wanted to do it earlier in the summer, but wouldn’t you know it, here it is almost August and I’m finally getting around to a summer theme!

It’s Wednesday again and that means it’s time for another Color Throwdown challenge! This week the very talented Cathy Indelicato is our hostess and she chose the coolest color combo:

CTD #4

I thought this would be a great baby color combo and since I need a birthday card for my grandson, Miles, who is turning 2 this week, I decided to go with that theme. No frilly cards, or butterflies and flowers for that little guy! (Ok, maybe a couple!) Here’s his birthday card and my challenge card:

With Love 2 U

I just fell in love with this Mindy’s Zoo clear stamp set when I saw it on sale - 50% off! - at Hobby Lobby last week. I definitely bought it with Miles’ birthday in mind. What a cute little monkey and I love the palm tree too! I stamped it on watercolor paper and used my Stampin’ Up! reinkers and a waterbrush to paint the scene.

The With Love sentiment is stamped in stazon onto acetate. The grunge 2 and U were coated with Distress black soot ink and heat embossed with black detail EP. These were mounted onto the acetate with tiny glue dots.

The acetate layer is wrapped behind the largest black layer on both sides and taped down on the back.

Be sure to check out the other designers’ cards here:

And please play along with us! Upload your card to your blog or to Splitcoast using keyword CTD4, then leave us a link to the card itself in today’s post on the Color Throwdown blog. I can’t wait to see what designs you come up with using this color combo!

Happy Birthday, Miles!!!

Thanks for visiting today! See you next time!

2 For You Tuesday #8

2 for you new

Yay! 2 For You Tuesdays is back! I know I’m glad and I sure hope you are too. It seems like forever since I’ve stamped. I know that’s not true, but so many things have taken over
my life for the past couple of weeks, that it seems like years to me!

There isn’t a Rubbernecker challenge this week due to unforeseen circumstances, but I have a card for you anyway!

RUBBERNECKER

Yummy, BRIGHT and sparkly! That’s what I think of this card! This Nana’s Kids glittery paper is what I started with and kept adding to. I almost couldn’t stop myself! I used kaleidoscope EP, Ranger glossy accents, and Sakura gelly roll pens.

Sparkly Friend

You know you can never get the full glittery effect from a photograph. So I tried to capture the shimmer better here:

Sparkly Friend close up

Like I said, the patterned paper was already sparkly. I added a strip of adhesive to the pink cardstock pieces with my ATG tape gun, then embossed it with kaleidoscope EP. I smushed my Adirondack Purple Twilight ink pad onto the grungeboard letters (gosh, I love that stuff!) until they were coated really well then embossed them too.

I covered the entire glass with Ranger glossy accents and the flower, umbrella and straw were colored with the gelly roll pens.

Stamps:Pina Colada - Rubbernecker Beach Party section, Happy Birthday - Rubbernecker Sentiments section

Paper: white, pink passion, Nana’s Kids - DCWV

JACKSONBELLE EMBELLISHMENTS - JBE013

~~~
Birthday Flight crop
The challenge this week for the Jacksonbelle Embellishments team was just a free-for-all to use any Jacksonbelle products. Well, that’s easy….but not! I have so many items (and keep getting more) that it gets harder and harder to choose!
I had not used all the stamps in the Garden Delight clear Inkadinkado stamp set, so I chose the dragonfly and the flower branch silhouette to work with. I colored the branch stamp with my Stampin’ Up! markers, spritzed it with water and stamped off on scratch paper first, then stamped it on white cardstock.
Birthday Flight
The dragonfly is stamped in Lovely Lilac ink onto Lovely Lilac paper, then painted with Lilac Shimmerz. Wow that stuff is awesome! I also painted the Royal Red Shimmerz on the butterfly which was punched with a Martha Stewart punch from the new SU Riding Hood Red cardstock. Tied a bow through the image panel and around the edge of the card, added some rhinestones and the Happy Birthday stamped in Lovely Lilac, and that was it. And how about that yummy Basic Grey Euphoria paper! The red in it matches the Riding Hood Red perfectly!
So how about playing along in the challenge with us? Use Jacksonbelle Embellishments products and the keyword JBE013 when you upload your card to Splitcoast.
Here are links to the other designers blogs so you can see their beautiful creations:
Thanks for coming by to visit today. I so appreciate it! See you tomorrow with the Color Throwdown weekly challenge!
Color Throwdown - Week #3
Quartet on a Branch crop
It’s time for another Color Throwdown challenge! And I’m the “hostess with the mostess” (Ha!) this week, so that means I got to pick out the colors! I had my Basic Grey Blush papers in mind when I chose this combination. I just love that paper! Here are the colors for the week:
CTD week 3
and here’s my card for this week:
Quartet on a Branch
I’m not sure if you can tell, but I used a real branch for the birds to sit on. Well, I actually just glued it over the stamped branch. Duh! The stamps are from Inkadinkado and don’t they work great together? The teal and ruby strips are sponged on the edges with Close to Cocoa ink. I ran the teal strip through the Cuttlebug using the Spots & Dots folder. I also painted around the edge of the white image layer with my Aqua Marine Shimmerz paint using a paint brush. Have you tried the Shimmerz? It’s amazing how sparkly it is IRL! The flower is a Prima Painterly Petals Urban flower and it’s just beautiful!
Please check out the other designers’ cards here:
If you decide to play along with us, and I hope you DO, please link your blog post which contains your card or your card on Splitcoast to the Color Throwdown Blog. And be sure to use the keyword CTD3 at Splitcoast.
Thanks so much for visiting with me today! See you next time!
Are you playing???
Summer Hibiscus crop
Are you playing in the Dare to Get Dirty challenges at Splitcoaststampers? This is an annual event put on by Splitcoast and all the Dirty Girls past and present.
There are several challenges every day this week, Monday, June 21 through Sunday, June 27. The theme this year is A Day in the Life of a Dirty Girl. Each of the Dirty Girls that is hosting a challenge will be demonstrating what it is that makes them unique or stand out above the crowd and helped to make them “dirty”!
I wasn’t able to host a challenge this year, but I did make a sample for one of today’s challenges, Watercolor Wows, which is hosted by Christine of ChristineCreations fame! She always wows me with her artwork whether she watercolors or not!
Summer Hibiscus
I watercolored using a waterbrush and Adirondack inks, then painted over that with my Shimmerz paint. I painted around the edge of my sentiment tag too. Wow, what a shine! I also cut out my flowers while they were still slightly damp and curled the leaves up a little with my fingers to give them more dimension. You can click on the photo to see a larger version.
I hope you’ll play along with the challenges this year. If you’re not a Fan Club member yet and would like to play, here is a link to more details: Splitcoast Fan Club
Thanks for stopping by. I hope you’ll decide to play with us! I look forward to seeing your creations!
A new week!
Published by bronih under Beach, Family, Just talking
Hi everyone! I’m back from the beach! It was a wonderful relaxing time, but not without some craziness mixed in! I went with my daughter and 2 grandsons, so you know we didn’t just sit on the beach soaking up the rays and relaxing the whole time! We built drip sand castles, rode the waves on boogie boards, and watched the lifeguard pull in several people who weren’t paying attention and got carried out too far by the riptides. The riptides were unusually strong because of the low pressure system off the coast which has now become a tropical storm.
We also played MagiQuest! Have you heard of it? You purchase a “magic” wand and are given several different quests to complete within a certain time span. Your wand unlocks secrets and allows you to gather treasures to aid you along the way. There were people of all ages playing. It was really cool! There were castles, gargoyles, fairies, unicorns, musical trees and even wizards! Here’s Hunter with his wand, waiting to enter the chamber to play.
And here are some more random images of the week. Check out Hunter’s back flip on the bungee cord jump and my “Shark’s Bite” beverage!
2 for You Tuesday #7
2 for You Tuesdays
Well, it’s Tuesday again and I’m not actually at home right now. I’m on vacation this week and have scheduled this post to release on Tuesday morning. So I hope it’s really Tuesday today and I haven’t messed things up!!
I’ll be brief with my card descriptions today. Here we go:
RUBBERNECKER - RBC18
~~~

Little One crop

Today is Treasure Hunt Tuesday at Rubbernecker Stamp Co. You can find the first clue on the HOME PAGE and when you find the treasure and make a purchase, the treasure is yours!

BLOG CANDY TODAY IS BEING OFFERED BY SHELLY AND CANDY!

As you may know, today is also Rubbernecker Bloggers Challenge day! Today, Jeanne has issued the challenge to make an ANIMAL CARD. You know, I didn’t realize that I have VERY FEW Rubbernecker animal images. I guess I’m just going to have to get some more! In the meantime, I’m using my baby bear image for my card today.
Little One

The base is wild wasabi and the corners are rounded and a border was pierced. The scalloped piece of Two Scoops paper was cut and embossed using Nestabilities and my Cuttlebug, as was the scalloped mat around my little bear. Baby Bear was colored with Copic markers and I sponged a little groovy guava around the edges. I stamped only a portion of the sentiment onto a vellum heart tag and tied it to the wasabi ribbon.

Be sure to check out the other DT members challenge cards:

  • Candy Williams
  • Jeanne Streiff
  • Kittie Caracciolo
  • Leigh O’Brien
  • Linda Duke
  • Shelly Kuck

    Live Your Bliss crop

    Today’s Jacksonbelle challenge for the design team was to case another DT member. We were assigned “partners”. Well, oh my! My partner is Elizebeth Neumann! Can you imagine how hard it was to choose just one of her cards to case?? Just look at these wonderful cards - ebethneu. After numerous views throughout her entire gallery, I kept coming back to this card:

    Pamper Yourselff-ebethneu

    So this is the one I decided to case. I kept the general color theme, the layout, the scalloped bottom edge and ribbon placement. I also popped up the main focus image on mounting tape. The difference lies in the stamp sets used and the fact that I watercolored my image and Elizebeth paper-pieced hers. So here’s mine:

    Live Your Bliss

    I just fell in love with this Inkadinkado stamp the first time I saw it. I’m a beach lover, you know! And I really love how my card turned out. I wouldn’t have been able to come up with it without Elizebeth’s great inspiration! Thanks, Beth!!! We definitely need to try this challenge again!!

    Check out the other designers’ cases of each other:

    Why don’t you try it? Case a card from one of the designer’s galleries and upload it to SCS with the keyword code JBE011. I can’t wait to see what you do!

    Stamps: Beach Chair Diagram - Inkadinkado, Mixed Messages - Papertrey Ink.

If you decide to play, and you upload your card to Splitcoast, please use keyword CTD1 so we can check them all out.
    And here is the color combination that LeAnne chose for us to play with today:

    challenge 1

    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    Cherry Pistachio crop
    What a beautiful color combination! My first thought went to flowers, but then immediately I thought of pistachio ice cream. You can ask Sherry how much I love desserts!! So that’s what I went with. This is my cherry pistachio ice cream cone.
    It’s stamped on shimmery vanilla cardstock with Palette Hybrid Burnt Umber and colored with Stampin’ Up! markers. I haven’t tried that in a while, as I’m mostly hooked on my Copics now, but I wanted to be able to match the colors correctly. (As always, you can click on the photo to see a larger image.)
    Cherry Pistachio
    The ice cream cone is one of the Rubbernecker cherry desserts in the Sweets section. Yum! I know you can’t see it in the photo, but I dry embossed the cone part by outlining it and tracing the cross section lines on the back of the image. So IRL it has such great texture and depth! I used My Mind’s Eye paper - sweet! - and my long rectangle Nestabilities too. That’s it! Wrapped in ribbon and ric rac, it’s ready to be sent to a dear friend as a thank-you card.
    Thanks for visiting! I certainly hope you’ll visit the Color Throwdown Blog and join in the challenges with us! Until next time~
    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

    Stamps: Ice Cream Cone - Rubbernecker Sweets section; Grid Paper - Cornish Heritage Farms; How Sweet It Is - My Favorite Things

    Paper: shimmery vanilla, sage shadow, regal rose, pretty in pink, My Mind’s Eye 12×12 slab

    Ink: Palette Hybrid Burnt Umber, pretty in pink, sage shadow, SU markers - pretty in pink, regal rose, sage shadow, blush blossom, creamy caramel, close to cocoa

    Accessories: Copic BG10 for shading, long rectangle Nestabilities, Cuttlebug, ribbon, ric rac, mounting tape, Ranger Glossy Accents, faux Dew Drops

    2 for You Tuesday #6

    2 for you new

    Geez! I can’t believe it’s Tuesday again already! Time is moving much faster….or I’m moving much slower!

    I’ve finally recovered from my trip to Florida, but now I’m getting ready to head to Myrtle Beach for a week. I’m really looking forward to spending some time on the sand, smelling the salt air and listening to the waves. Pure relaxation.

    But wait! My grandsons will be there too! Well, maybe I’ll still get a little time to myself. We’ll see!

    I have two more challenge cards to show you today. So here they are:

    RUBBERNECKER - RBC17

    ~~~
    Silver Ribbon crop2
    It’s time for the Rubbernecker Tuesday Treasure Hunt. You know the drill! Head to the Rubbernecker Home Page where you’ll find your first clue, mateys! You could be on your way to finding free rubbah!
    Jeanne and Leigh have BLOG CANDY today too! I know you don’t want to miss that!
    Today’s Rubbernecker Blogger Challenge is to use ribbon in a non-traditional way. Hmm. Since my mind is still not quite completely recovered, I decided to take the easy route and case myself from my Dirty Dozen days (my first month, actually) and make a ribbon flower. It’s not very non-traditional, but it’s not terribly common either. That should qualify, huh?
    If you need more details about how you can play along with the challenge and have a chance to win big Rubbernecker bucks, just check out this page at Jeanne’s blog.
    Check out the other designers’ cards (links in the left column) as well.
    Now here’s my card -
    Silver Ribbon flower
    I used Jeanne’s beautiful Stylish Flourish from the Jeanne Streiff Collection at Rubbernecker and stamped it in StazOn Opaque Cotton White onto acetate. I immediately sprinkled Dazzling Diamonds over it. Ooooo, I like how sparkly it turned out!
    I attached textured groovy guava cardstock to the inside of the clear card and after threading the silver ribbon through a hole cut with my craft knife, I attached it to the acetate with glue dots. I stamped the sentiment in Versamark on the patterned guava paper and embossed it with silver embossing powder. Then I attached it to the inside front with glue dots also.
    The flower was made by looping the ribbon onto my paper piercer over and over until I got the fullness I wanted. Then I squiggled (technical term, you know) the paper piercer around several times to get the hole bigger. I stuck the brad through the hole and attached the silver ribbon flower with a couple more glue dots.
    I hope you like it! Here are the deets:
    Stamps: Stylish Flourish - Jeanne Streiff Collection, May All Your Wishes - #145-19
    Paper: acetate, groovy guava textured, Stampin’ Up! Afternoon Tea
    Ink: StazOn Opaque Cotton White, Versamark
    Accessories: silver EP, heat gun, Dazzling Diamonds glitter, gem brad, silver ribbon
    All items in this color are available at Rubbernecker Stamp Co.
    JACKSONBELLE EMBELLISHMENTS - JBE010
    ~~~

    Swirly Bird crop

    Today’s challenge for the Jacksonbelle Embellishments team is a sketch challenge! It’s a cool one too!

    I used it as my jumping off point to make an anniversary card for my daughter and her husband. They loved it!

    Swirly Bird

    I used Birds Galore from Inkadinkado (I just LOVE that set!) and Urban Cosmos paper from Prima Marketing. Yummy paper! The layer that I embossed the bird onto is from Papertrey Ink’s Everyday Blessings collection.

    Each layer is backed with a black mat. The front of the card was embossed with the Cuttlebug Birds & Swirls folder. How appropriate!

    It’s embellished with some beautiful May Arts ribbon, a flower and some Dew Drops.

    Be sure to check out the other girls’ blogs for their challenge cards. Or you can use the keyword JBE010 at Splitcoaststampers and you can play along too!

    Thanks for visiting with me again today! I hope you enjoyed the cards and I hope you’ll be back soon!
