Island Bound…

Published by at 10:13 pm under Card Designs,Rubbernecker

Not really, but I certainly wish I was!

The Ways to Use It Challenge on Splitcoast this week was to use leather – real or faux.  I searched and searched but couldn’t find any real leather suitable to use on a card.  So the alternative was to try to replicate it.

As I’m in a “ready for summer to get here” mode, I decided to pull out some more Rubbernecker stamps from the Sunny Days collection.  This time I used a beach bag, small palm tree and Aloha text stamps.

I stamped the beach bag with Palette Hybrid Burnt Umber, cut it out and sponged the edges with Adirondack Lake Mist ink.  Then I punched holes for the handle with my Cropadile and attached the jumbo eyelets.  Next up was the “faux” leather which I wanted to use for handles.  I cut a strip of chocolate chip cardstock and ran it back and forth over the edges of my stamping table to break down the paper fibers and make it more pliable.  I cut the strip in half  lengthwise, then folded each of those in half again.  I threaded one strip through the eyelets and taped both “handles” to the back of the bag.

The palm tree was stamped in Burnt Umber, colored with Copic markers, and cut out.  The Aloha text was stamped, cut out and sponged with Lake Mist.

I stitched the patterned paper to the card front and also stitched a line down the right edge of the card back.  I tied a wide grosgrain ribbon around the left side of the front of the card and added a piece of hemp twine through the knot.  The bag was attached to the card front with mounting tape.

Thanks for visiting and drop by anytime!
